Question: Should I soak whole japa mala in coconut oil or should I polish each bead with coconut oil, before using?

Answer: You need to soak them for a week or more. Coconut oil will work, devotees generally use mustard seed oil to soak tulsi japa beads in. Soaking will make the beads strong. If you don\'t soak the beads may crack after some time. So it is very important to soak tulsi japa beads.

For tulsi neck beads it is better to soak them as well, but for small neck beads you can just cover them in oil with your hands and rub it in, but still best is to soak them in oil also.
